Xmas 2008

With the end of year drawing to a close, so did the number of BBQs, parties and other social doos at work increase, until it got to the ridiculous situation of work barely being worth attending at all, which seemed to be the University’s aim, telling us effectively to take 2 weeks off over the Xmas/ new year period. Being naturally a little disrespectful of authority (and stupid), I of course ignored such a manifesto, and managed to sneak a few days of work in anyway. But I did manage to get out for a climb before Anita left for Brisbane, snagged a few good days of riding with the boys, spent some quality time pottering in the garden, attended Stephen and Janet’s Wedding in Blackheath (well done Chaps, even with the mid-meal thunderstorm!), as well as the odd family get-together. On a rare visit to Medlow bath, I even managed to track down my “new route” of about 15 years ago, still sporting three very rusty looking carrot bolts on the low section of the wall, one of which held a carabiner from someone who’d obviously decided to escape off it (these modern sport climbers are such pussies, although we were hardly going to do it again either). Anita was not overly impressed by how off the beaten track one had to go to even find the line – like anyone was likely to have done it before (the fear at the time). It was also nice catching up with Ian and Heidi, proud parents of little bubbity Zoe.
